Privacy Policy — MusicX

Last Updated: 2026-01-21

1. Summary

MusicX is a private cloud music & video player. We aim to minimize data collection. Most of your data stays on your device unless you choose cloud sync/storage or connect third-party services.

2. Data We Collect

We do not run our own user account system. MusicX does not require you to create a MusicX account.

Depending on features you use, MusicX may handle the following data:

  • Local library data (on-device): file names, folder structure, playlists, playback state, and metadata needed to play your media.
  • Notes & bookmarks (user content): URLs, text notes, and user-saved items you create inside the app.
  • Imported links (user initiated): links you explicitly share/open with MusicX (e.g., from Safari Share Sheet).

3. iCloud Drive Storage (Optional)

MusicX may offer an option to store notes/bookmarks in iCloud Drive.

  • If you enable iCloud Drive storage, your notes/bookmarks will be stored in your iCloud Drive and synchronized by Apple.
  • If you disable it, the same data will be stored locally on your device.
  • Your iCloud account is managed by Apple; MusicX does not access your Apple ID password.

4. Last.fm Integration (Optional)

If you choose to log in to Last.fm inside MusicX:

  • MusicX will use Last.fm authentication to access your Last.fm account as needed for features such as scrobbling.
  • MusicX may send data such as track title/artist/album and playback timestamps to Last.fm to provide scrobbling/history features.
  • Your use of Last.fm is also subject to Last.fm's own privacy policy and terms.

5. Cloud / Self-hosted Sources (Optional)

MusicX may allow you to connect to supported cloud providers or self-hosted services (e.g., WebDAV/SMB or other services).

  • Connection details you enter (server address, username, password, tokens) are used to connect to the service you specify.
  • MusicX may store credentials securely on-device (e.g., system keychain/keystore) to keep you signed in, depending on implementation.
  • Content accessed from third-party services is fetched from those services directly; MusicX does not host your files.

6. Built-in Browser & Link Detection

MusicX may include a built-in browser and optional detection of playable media links.

  • Any "import/save" action is user-initiated.
  • MusicX does not modify third-party websites.
  • MusicX only saves links/content when you explicitly confirm.

7. Permissions

Depending on your device and features used, MusicX may request permissions such as:

  • Local storage / media library access (to play and manage your files)
  • Local network access (for Wi-Fi transfer / device discovery)
  • Background audio playback (to keep playback running)

You can control permissions in your device settings. Some features may not work if permissions are denied.

8. Analytics & Advertising

  • MusicX does not display third-party ads by default.
  • MusicX does not intentionally collect sensitive personal data such as your contacts, SMS, or precise location.

9. Data Retention & Deletion

  • On-device data: you can delete notes and local library data within the app or by uninstalling MusicX.
  • iCloud data: if stored in iCloud Drive, you can delete files from iCloud Drive.
  • Third-party services: data sent to third parties (e.g., Last.fm scrobbles) is subject to those parties' retention policies.

10. Children's Privacy

MusicX is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will update the "Last Updated" date above.
